Engineering Manager

About the job

As Engineering Manager at Satelligence, you will lead two small teams: one building our user-facing application and another developing our data infrastructure. You will balance hands-on technical involvement with people leadership, guiding engineers in both areas while driving our technical roadmap.

You will act as the bridge between app and data engineering, ensuring seamless collaboration and scalable architecture. This role combines strategic vision with technical depth and reports directly to the Director of Technology.

What will you do?

• Lead and Mentor: Provide leadership, technical guidance, and career development for two talented teams—the team building our user-facing application and the Data engineers architecting our data infrastructure. Given our org's size (<5 engineers in either team) you'll balance hands-on technical involvement with people leadership.

• Drive Technical Strategy: Define and execute the technical roadmap and ensure our architecture is scalable, modern, and aligned with our product goals.

• Foster Collaboration: Act as the bridge between the app and data engineering teams, ensuring seamless integration between the user experience and the underlying data systems. You'll work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to deliver cohesive solutions.

• Champion Best Practices: Promote engineering excellence across both disciplines, from advocating for clean, maintainable code to ensuring data integrity and efficient ETL/ELT processes.

• Build Your Teams: Take an active role in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new engineers, building a diverse and high-performing group.

About you

You don't need to be a hands-on expert in both fields, but you must have a deep appreciation for the challenges and best practices of each.

• Experienced Leader: You have 3+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager or Technical Lead, with a proven track record of managing engineers to successful outcomes.

• Strong Technical Foundation: You have a solid technical background preferably in data engineering (e.g., Python, SQL and ETL frameworks).

• Strategic Thinker: You can balance immediate delivery needs with long-term architectural vision. You know how to make pragmatic trade-offs.

• Excellent Communicator: You are skilled at translating complex technical ideas for different audiences and are passionate about creating an inclusive and psychologically safe environment.

• Product-Oriented: You are driven by building great products and understand how data and user interfaces work together to create value for the customer.
